METRO

Tbilisi Underground, called the Metro for “Metropolitan”, has two lines and 23 stations. It operates from 6:00 AM to 12:00 M. Metro stations are identified by the red (M) sign.

Where is it possible to purchase “Travel Card”, fill balance and check left-over?

Purchase of “Travel Card” card is possible to any payment office of metro stations and Rike-Narikala wire rope. Cost of card is 2 Lari. Card is not personal; accordingly, no document to be submitted is required to take card. Deposit of amount on card is possible:

  • in any metro station
  • Both stations of Rike-Narikala Cable Car
  • Express payment machines of “Bank of Georgia” and service-centers

Sight of left-over on card is possible in metro stations by crossing automatic control unit, on bus ticket and in payment offices of stations (both metro and Cable car).

However, there is no 90-minute transfer period on the new card, and unlike the old MetroMoney card, you can’t use the same Travel Card for more than one passenger. If you try to tap twice in quick succession, it will reject the card – you need a 15-minute interval in between taps. Therefore, each person needs to buy their own card.

MINIBUS

if you’d like to travel by minibuses you can catch it basically at any bus stops, the minibuses as buses have fixed stops. The passenger may ask the driver to stop mini bus at the bus stations. Minibuses usually cost 1 Lari (35 cents). They run from 7am to 12AM.
