Georgia travel cost depends on where you stay, how you eat and how often you travel beyond Tbilisi. If you spend most of your visit in the capital, a useful starting allowance is 125–210 GEL per day for one budget traveller, 265–460 GEL for a solo traveller who wants a private room and more flexibility, or 260–400 GEL per day for a budget-minded couple sharing a room. A trip through several regions needs extra money for intercity transport and, sometimes, a different type of accommodation.
I live in Tbilisi and regularly meet travellers with very different budgets. The question I ask first is not how much they expect to pay for khinkali. It is where they plan to sleep, whether they are travelling alone, and how many times they want to leave the city. Those decisions change the total much more than a single inexpensive meal.
Last checked: 30 September 2026. Prices are in Georgian lari (GEL). The main tables below describe a Tbilisi-based trip. Restaurant prices are examples from menus reviewed for this guide in September 2026; they are not guaranteed live prices. Accommodation figures are planning allowances, not quotations for particular hotels.
Georgia Travel Cost at a Glance
These totals assume one paid night for each day shown: three days and three nights, seven days and seven nights, or fourteen days and fourteen nights. They include accommodation, meals, transport within Tbilisi and a modest amount for activities. They do not yet include international flights or travel between Georgian cities.
| Travel style | Daily allowance | 3 days / 3 nights | 7 days / 7 nights | 14 days / 14 nights |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo, budget | 125–210 GEL | 375–630 GEL | 875–1,470 GEL | 1,750–2,940 GEL |
| Solo, mid-range | 265–460 GEL | 795–1,380 GEL | 1,855–3,220 GEL | 3,710–6,440 GEL |
| Solo, comfortable | 550–950 GEL | 1,650–2,850 GEL | 3,850–6,650 GEL | 7,700–13,300 GEL |
| Couple, budget | 260–400 GEL together | 780–1,200 GEL together | 1,820–2,800 GEL together | 3,640–5,600 GEL together |
| Couple, mid-range | 450–760 GEL together | 1,350–2,280 GEL together | 3,150–5,320 GEL together | 6,300–10,640 GEL together |
| Couple, comfortable | 950–1,600 GEL together | 2,850–4,800 GEL together | 6,650–11,200 GEL together | 13,300–22,400 GEL together |
How to read this table: “Couple” means the total for two people, not a price per person. These Georgia travel cost estimates are amounts to plan with, not minimum or maximum prices you are guaranteed to find. For example, a high-season hotel, several private excursions or expensive dinners can take you above the range.
What Goes into a Georgia Travel Cost Estimate?
I prefer showing the calculation rather than presenting a mysterious “average daily cost”. You can change any row to match how you travel.
| Daily allowance | Accommodation | Food and drinks | City transport | Activities and small extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo, budget: 125–210 GEL | 50–90 GEL | 55–80 GEL | 5–10 GEL | 15–30 GEL |
| Solo, mid-range: 265–460 GEL | 130–230 GEL | 90–140 GEL | 15–35 GEL | 30–55 GEL |
| Solo, comfortable: 550–950 GEL | 300–550 GEL | 170–240 GEL | 35–60 GEL | 45–100 GEL |
| Couple, budget: 260–400 GEL | 110–180 GEL per room | 110–160 GEL together | 10–20 GEL together | 30–40 GEL together |
| Couple, mid-range: 450–760 GEL | 180–320 GEL per room | 180–280 GEL together | 30–60 GEL together | 60–100 GEL together |
| Couple, comfortable: 950–1,600 GEL | 500–900 GEL per room | 300–420 GEL together | 60–100 GEL together | 90–180 GEL together |
“Activities and small extras” is an average across the stay. You might spend almost nothing on one walking day and much more on a museum, tasting or guided-tour day. Therefore, add a particularly expensive experience separately rather than squeezing it into a daily figure that no longer reflects your plans.
What does a seven-night calculation look like?
Imagine two people spending seven nights in Tbilisi. They choose a private room at 220 GEL per night, allow 210 GEL per day for food together, 30 GEL per day for city transport and an average of 70 GEL per day for activities:
- Room: 220 × 7 = 1,540 GEL
- Food: 210 × 7 = 1,470 GEL
- City transport: 30 × 7 = 210 GEL
- Activities: 70 × 7 = 490 GEL
Base total: 3,710 GEL for two people. This Georgia travel cost example uses a hypothetical 220 GEL room; it is not an advertised rate at a named hotel. Next, add your actual airport journeys, mobile connection, insurance if needed and any trip outside Tbilisi. If your room includes breakfast, you may be able to lower the food line. If you plan a special dinner or private excursion, raise the appropriate line.
Accommodation: The Biggest Variable in Your Budget
Accommodation usually makes the biggest difference to your Georgia travel cost. A difference of 100 GEL per night becomes 700 GEL over a week or 1,400 GEL over two weeks. That is why I would settle the accommodation question before worrying about the price of every coffee.
Travelling alone: hostel or private room?
A dorm bed is often the least expensive way to stay in Tbilisi. Fabrika is an example I know and recommend for its social atmosphere. Its courtyard makes it particularly appealing if you are travelling alone and would like to meet people. Fabrika also has private rooms, so it does not have to be a dorm stay.
The 50–90 GEL dorm allowance in our table is a budgeting assumption across the category, not Fabrika’s guaranteed rate. Check the final price for your dates, the bed type, whether you share a bathroom and what is included.
Travelling as a couple: compare two beds with one room
Two hostel beds are not automatically the cheapest option. At 70 GEL per bed, two people pay 140 GEL per night. A private room at 150 GEL would be only 10 GEL more. At another time, the hostel might be substantially cheaper. Compare the total price for both people, including taxes and fees.
Boutique and higher-end hotels
For a boutique stay, Unfound Door is one of my personal examples. For a higher-end hotel, look at Rooms Tbilisi or Telegraph. I mention these because they illustrate different experiences and levels of service, not because one fixed nightly price applies to every room and date.
When you compare hotels, enter the same dates and number of guests everywhere. Then check the room category, cancellation policy, breakfast, taxes and final payable total. A flexible booking may cost more than a non-refundable one. Similarly, a room that looks inexpensive before taxes may not be the cheapest at checkout.
What about short-stay apartments?
An apartment can make sense for a longer stay, particularly if you want a kitchen or laundry facilities. I would be cautious about recommending one individual apartment in a general guide: listings and hosts change too often. Read recent reviews, check the precise location and final fees, and confirm practical details such as heating, air conditioning, stairs and lift access.
A cheap room far from the places you want to visit may also mean more taxis. Our where to stay in Tbilisi guide helps you choose an area before you compare listings.
Why no exact hotel price beside each recommendation? A reliable accommodation quote needs travel dates, number of guests, room type, availability and a final price including taxes. Without those, a figure beside a hotel name would look more certain than it is.
Food Prices: From a Simple Lunch to a Special Dinner
Food is one of the most flexible parts of a Georgia travel cost estimate. Some travellers eat a bakery breakfast and one substantial Georgian meal. Others want three restaurant meals, wine and dessert. Georgian dishes are also commonly shared, so “price per person” can hide what was actually ordered.
How much should you allow for different restaurants?
The following groups are guidance for choosing where to eat. They are not a ranking of food quality, and the price bands are planning estimates rather than a price set by every restaurant in the group.
| Style | Examples | Useful meal allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Very inexpensive, simple meal | Mapshalia | A basic order can cost under 25 GEL; confirm the current menu. |
| Casual traditional Georgian food | Chashnagiri, Bernard, Margalita | Roughly 30–60 GEL per person for a normal meal. |
| Restaurants I especially recommend | Winos, Salobie Bia, Daphna, Shavi Lomi | Roughly 45–90 GEL per person, depending on the dishes and drinks. |
| Special-occasion dining | Otsy, Barbarestan | Allow 100 GEL or more per person; several courses and wine cost more. |
What do sample restaurant orders actually cost?
To show what sits behind those broad allowances, here are sample orders calculated from menus checked for this guide in September 2026. A restaurant may change a dish or its price. In addition, drinks or an additional charge may change your final bill.
- Mapshalia: lobio was listed at 7 GEL, a tomato-and-cucumber salad at 7 GEL and water at 2.50 GEL. That particular order adds up to 16.50 GEL. It is a useful example for someone on a very tight budget. I do not personally vouch for its food quality, and you should confirm its current payment methods before visiting.
- Bernard: the official English pub menu listed khinkali at about 2.30 GEL each, Imeruli khachapuri at 21 GEL and tomato salad at 14.50 GEL when checked. This is a particular Bernard menu; prices may differ by branch or menu format.
- Salobie Bia: lobio with pickles and mchadi was listed at 20 GEL, shkmeruli at 25 GEL, Imeruli khachapuri at 19 GEL and water at 3.50 GEL. The three dishes and two waters add up to 71 GEL for two before any additional charge. Read our Salobie Bia guide for more about the restaurant.
- Winos: eggplant with walnuts was listed at 22 GEL, roasted chicken in garlic sauce at 30 GEL and Imeruli khachapuri at 21 GEL. Those three dishes total 73 GEL for two before drinks.
- Otsy: a tomato starter was listed at 30 GEL, lamb kebab with rice at 60 GEL and chicken at 65 GEL. One starter and those two mains total 155 GEL for two before drinks or dessert. The menu reviewed for this example stated that its listed prices included VAT.
- Barbarestan: starters on the menu reviewed began at about 42 GEL, while many mains were priced around 85–99 GEL. Ordering a starter and main each can therefore produce a substantial bill before dessert or wine.
How can you adjust your food budget?
Chashnagiri, Bernard and Margalita are options I would consider for familiar Georgian dishes at more approachable prices. Winos, Salobie Bia, Daphna and Shavi Lomi are personal recommendations for different kinds of meals. Meanwhile, Otsy and Barbarestan belong in the special-dinner part of a budget rather than the everyday-meal part.
If you want to save money, mix restaurant meals with bakery breakfasts, simple lunches or supermarket purchases. If you have a food allergy or dietary restriction, our Georgia food allergies guide will help you ask the right questions before ordering.
Getting Around Tbilisi
City travel is one of the more predictable parts of your Georgia travel cost. Tbilisi’s standard municipal fare is 1 GEL. It includes eligible transfers for 90 minutes on the metro, buses, municipal minibuses and the Bagebi–University ropeway. The Tbilisi Transport Company lists a 3 GEL one-day unlimited pass and a 20 GEL one-week pass; these passes require a subscription card. A Metromoney or subscription card costs 2 GEL.
For someone staying near the centre, walking plus a few municipal rides may be enough. For taxis, use an app and check the quoted fare before confirming: time of day, traffic and demand affect what you pay. Our public transport guide explains cards, routes and cable cars, while our taxi apps guide covers ride-hailing.
Airport to the city
Municipal airport bus №337 costs 1 GEL, according to Tbilisi Airport. Our transport guide cites the airport’s indicative 40–60 GEL for its official metered taxi service to central Tbilisi. A pre-booked private transfer is another option; its price depends on the vehicle and service arranged. Consider your arrival time, luggage, number of passengers and hotel location when comparing them. Our Tbilisi Airport guide brings the transport options together.
Do not assume that a tourist cable car is covered by the 1 GEL city fare. For example, the Rike–Narikala cable car is listed at 2.50 GEL one way and uses a separate fare.
Travelling Beyond Tbilisi: Compare the Whole Journey
A region-by-region Georgia travel cost estimate needs more than one ticket price. A shared minibus seat, a train ticket, an organised excursion and a private vehicle with a driver do not buy the same experience. Compare the complete journey, including the return, local connections, time and number of people travelling.
Shared buses and minibuses: where do you start?
Didube Bus Station is a useful starting point for many journeys north and west of Tbilisi, including Mtskheta, Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), Gori, Borjomi and Kutaisi. “Didube” is a wider transport area around the metro station rather than one single platform. Our station guide explains the different terminals, where to look for your vehicle and how payment works.
What do tickets from Didube cost?
To give you an idea of the scale of the expense, the Didube guide lists approximately 2 GEL one way to Mtskheta, 20 GEL to Stepantsminda and 20–35 GEL to Kutaisi in its July 2026 overview. However, these are indicative one-way fares, not guaranteed prices or the total cost of a day trip. Confirm the operator, departure point, return service and fare before setting out.
For Kakheti, do not automatically go to Didube. Navtlugi near Samgori Metro is a common starting point for places such as Sighnaghi and Telavi. Our Navtlugi guide puts a Sighnaghi minibus at roughly 10–15 GEL one way, while warning that times and fares should be checked locally. A cheap ticket to a town does not necessarily take you directly to every winery or sight you want to visit.
For the wider picture, use our Georgia Without a Car guide. It explains which routes connect naturally, where you may need to change vehicles and when returning through Tbilisi is actually the sensible route.
Train: compare the route and seat class
For a journey served by rail, check the departure and price on the Georgian Railway website. Seat class and the service you select affect the cost. Our Tbilisi Central Railway Station guide explains where to go and how boarding works. Also add transport to and from the stations to the train ticket when comparing it with a door-to-door option.
A vehicle with a driver: flexibility has its own price
If you prefer a direct transfer or want to choose your stops and timing, you can arrange a vehicle with a driver. This may be especially useful for a family, a group sharing the cost, travellers with substantial luggage or a route with several places that are awkward to connect by public transport.
Our KM Georgia Transfers & Tours listing is one example of a service offering airport transfers, intercity journeys and custom routes with different vehicle sizes. Its page shows prices for selected routes, but the final amount for your journey depends on the route, vehicle, stops and arrangements agreed with the company. Ask for a quote that states the pickup point, destination, planned stops, waiting time and what is included.
This is a vehicle-and-driver service. It is not a self-drive rental, and a professional tour guide is not included. If you already have an itinerary, you can discuss that route directly with the driver company. If you want a guide’s historical explanations as well, check and budget for that separately.
Which transport option fits your trip?
For a fair Georgia travel cost comparison, first decide whether your priority is the lowest ticket price, a convenient scheduled journey or the freedom to choose your own route. Then compare the complete cost for everyone travelling together.
| Option | Usually suits | Price question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Shared bus or minibus | Travellers prioritising a low ticket price and following a scheduled route. | What is the fare in each direction, and what will local transport cost after arrival? |
| Train | Routes with a suitable rail service and travellers who prefer to book a seat. | What is the ticket price for my date and class, including station transfers? |
| Vehicle with driver | Direct transfers, flexible stops, families or groups splitting a vehicle cost. | What is the total agreed price for the vehicle, route, stops and waiting time? |
For any regional trip, list the outward journey, return or onward journey, local transfers, admission tickets and meals. If you stay overnight, add the new room and check that you are not paying for an unused room back in Tbilisi.
What about admission fees outside Tbilisi?
Entrance fees matter outside the capital too. The Agency of Protected Areas listed 40 GEL for a foreign adult to enter Prometheus Cave, with an optional boat service priced separately at 30 GEL when checked. Its Martvili Canyon page listed 20 GEL for a foreign adult. Transport to the sites is additional, and visitor categories have different prices.
Museums, Baths and Tours: Choose Your Expensive Days
The activities line in your Georgia travel cost estimate should reflect what you actually plan to do. You can enjoy many parts of Tbilisi without buying an admission ticket. However, a few paid experiences can change your total quickly.
Museums and sulfur baths
- Museum: the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia lists 40 GEL for an adult citizen of another country. Check the correct admission category; the Georgian-citizen rate is different.
- Sulfur bath: private rooms vary considerably. As one concrete example, Chreli Abano’s booking page displayed a private-room option at 200 GEL when checked. Confirm the selected room, booking duration and any treatments before paying; this is not a universal sulfur-bath price.
Guided and tip-based experiences
- Guided experience: our team’s Soviet tour lists 50 GEL, its wine experience lists 90 GEL, and the food tasting tour lists 110–130 GEL per person, depending on group size. These are examples from our own published tours, not a claim about every tour operator.
- Tip-based walk: our Old Tbilisi tour has no fixed ticket price; guests contribute a tip to the guide.
Choose the experiences you actually want, then add them to the days when you plan to do them. For instance, a private bath and a food tour on the same day will make that day much more expensive than a walk around the Old Town. The daily table is an average, not a spending limit for each calendar day.
Three Days, One Week or Two Weeks: What Changes?
Three days
A short first visit can stay entirely in Tbilisi. That keeps regional transport out of the calculation. Your airport journeys, mobile connection and any booking fees account for a larger share of the trip because you spread them over only three days. Paying a little more for a well-located room may save time when time is the scarce resource.
Seven days
A week gives you room for slower city days and perhaps one or two trips beyond Tbilisi. Start with your seven-night city budget, then add each trip’s transport and entry fees. A minibus from Didube, a train and a private driver can each make sense for a different itinerary; compare the total cost and what the journey lets you do. If an organised excursion includes tastings, tickets or lunch, check precisely what is included so you do not count those expenses twice.
Fourteen days
For a fourteen-day Georgia travel cost estimate, do not simply multiply one Tbilisi day by fourteen if you plan to cross the country. A multi-city itinerary introduces longer journeys, different room prices and sometimes a local transfer after the main train or bus. On the other hand, an apartment with a kitchen, fewer paid activities and more nights in one place may lower your average daily cost. For two weeks, the route is as important as the hotel category.
Extra Costs to Put on Your Checklist
Before you settle on a Georgia travel cost figure, check the expenses that may sit outside the main daily table:
- SIM or eSIM: Magti’s published tourist offers included 15 GEL and 30 GEL packages valid for 15 days when checked. Compare the data allowance and other operators in our SIM and eSIM guide.
- Insurance: Georgia’s tourist health-and-accident insurance rules took effect on 1 January 2026. You may already have a qualifying policy; check before buying another. As one published price example, Irao advertises a visitor policy at 2 GEL per day. Price alone does not tell you whether a policy suits your plans. Read our insurance guide and the official regulation for the requirements.
- Arrival and departure: budget both airport journeys. If your arrival or departure day falls outside the nights used in the main table, allow for meals and insurance coverage on those days too.
- Hotel extras: breakfast, taxes, cleaning fees, cancellation flexibility and additional guests can change the final price.
- Restaurant extras: wine, bottled drinks, desserts and any service charge can make two similar-looking meals cost very different amounts.
- Bank charges: exchange rates, card conversion and ATM fees depend on your provider. Check what your own bank will charge.
Should You Convert the Budget into USD, EUR or GBP?
I would keep the prices in GEL because that is what visitors will normally see on menus, tickets and local booking pages. A dollar or euro figure printed today could become misleading when the exchange rate changes. For a quick conversion, use the National Bank of Georgia’s exchange-rate page or its currency calculator.
The official exchange rate is indicative; your bank or exchange office may use a different rate and charge a fee. Therefore, check the amount you will actually pay before making a large transaction.
Georgia Travel Cost: Frequently Asked Questions
Is Georgia cheap for tourists?
Georgia can be inexpensive if you choose modest accommodation, use public transport and mix restaurant visits with simple meals. A boutique hotel, private driver, fine-dining dinners and guided excursions produce a very different total. Decide which experiences matter to you, then build the budget around them.
How much does three days in Tbilisi cost?
For three days and three paid nights, our Tbilisi-based starting range is 375–630 GEL for one budget traveller or 780–1,200 GEL for a budget-minded couple sharing a room. Add international flights, the airport journeys, mobile data, suitable insurance and any activities that exceed your daily allowance.
How much should two people budget for one week?
A budget-minded couple might start with 1,820–2,800 GEL for seven days and nights in Tbilisi. A mid-range couple might start with 3,150–5,320 GEL. The worked example above totals 3,710 GEL before one-time arrival expenses and trips beyond the city.
What is the cheapest way to travel outside Tbilisi?
For many routes, a shared bus or minibus is a low-cost option. First check the correct departure area: Didube serves many northern and western routes, while Navtlugi is useful for Kakheti. However, a cheap intercity ticket may still require another ride from the arrival town to the sight you want to visit.
Is a vehicle with a driver the same as a guided tour?
No. A vehicle-and-driver booking covers the transport agreed with the operator. A professional guide, attraction tickets and meals should only be treated as included if the provider explicitly confirms them. For a custom route, get the full price and inclusions agreed before booking.
Is a hostel always cheaper for two people?
No. Add the price of two beds and compare it with the final price of a private room for two on the same dates. Sometimes privacy costs very little extra; sometimes the difference is substantial.
Can I use the Tbilisi daily budget for a trip across Georgia?
Use it for the Tbilisi portion. For the rest, add actual intercity tickets or a driver’s quote, regional rooms, local transfers and admission fees. A two-week journey needs a route-based calculation.
Are the menu and hotel amounts guaranteed?
No. Menu items are examples from menus reviewed in September 2026. Accommodation bands are planning allowances, not live offers from the named properties. Check the current menu and the final hotel price for your dates before relying on a figure.
Sources and How to Use This Guide
The Georgia travel cost figures in this article combine local recommendations, menus reviewed in September 2026 and published prices from the relevant operators. Bernard’s official menu can be checked online. For the other sample restaurant orders, treat the listed prices as a dated snapshot and confirm the current menu at the venue. The accommodation figures are deliberately presented as allowances because a reliable room quote requires exact dates and booking conditions.
For fares, admission prices and requirements, the primary sources are Tbilisi Transport Company, Tbilisi Airport, the Georgian National Museum, the Agency of Protected Areas, Georgia’s legislative database and the National Bank of Georgia. Intercity examples from our Didube and Navtlugi guides are indicative; confirm the fare and departure with the operator. Recheck time-sensitive prices before booking. If you find an outdated figure here, please let us know so we can correct it.
